Bethanne Nemesh is a classically trained artist whose interest in quilting began when the subtle influences of her grandmothers intersected with Bethanne’s moving to eastern Pennsylvania, an area rich in Amish quilting designs. An accidental trip to a local quilt store caused her to discover batiks and Bethanne found herself drawn to the beautiful colors and patterns of quilting. Like many of us, Bethanne began quilting by following commercial patterns. Soon, however, her artistic bent and familiarization with art shows and competitions led her to design and enter her domestic machine quilted pieces in quilting competitions. When Bethanne purchased a longarm machine, she began a quilting business in her home with the added benefit that she could now marry her natural drawing abilities with quilting. Her pictographic quilts have won major awards across the country and her quilts bear the signature look that has become known as “Nemeshing.â€
